Psychiatric Care We Provide
UConn Health is driven by excellence and innovation in clinical services. We strive to improve the quality of life for people impacted by mental health disorders throughout our community. Our medical care providers practice compassion and care deeply about every one of our patients.
Mental & Behavioral Healthcare Excellence
We emphasize the importance of providing patient-centered, evidence-based care. Our mission is to assess each patient as an individual and provide mental and behavioral health services that suit your specific needs. We treat every patient holistically and respect your perspective on any psychiatric challenges, how they impact your current social situation, medical needs and symptoms, and coexisting medical conditions. When you tell us how you feel, we listen.
All the interventions delivered by UConn Health are backed by scientific evidence. We provide quality care based on the latest research and knowledge rather than relying only on conventional therapies and interventions.
Types of Psychiatric Care We Provide
We place immense importance on creating an individual treatment plan for each patient. These treatment plans may involve:
- Different approaches to psychotherapy: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and more
- Counseling in individual, group, family, or couple settings
- The use of medications and interventions like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
- Combinations of the above therapies
Care for People With Various Mental Health Challenges
We are highly skilled and well-trained to provide excellent mental and behavioral care for patients of all ages and with a wide range of mental health disorders, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Eating disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Substance use disorder (SUD)
Care for People With Diverse Comorbidities
Patients will often have multiple conditions affecting their overall treatment plan. Instead of focusing exclusively on your mental health symptoms, we consider all the other comorbidities, such as arthritis, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain, and neurological diseases, and assess how these conditions may impact your quality of life. We even run a psychiatric clinic within our cancer center to provide compassionate care for patients undergoing treatment.
We know anxiety and depression often go hand in hand, and we provide treatment for these conditions jointly and separately. We help you process how these conditions may affect your life with health psychologists who teach coping techniques for chronic conditions and diseases.
