Nurse Finds UConn Health “A Great Place to Grow”

Registered nurse C.M. Campbell started at UConn Health as a medical assistant and worked her way through the ranks to nurse manager and now a Quality Assurance Specialist. And she continues to grow. Thanks to the mentorship and flexible work schedules UConn Health offers, Campbell is now seeking her master's degree in nursing education to help give back and train the next generation of nurses.

Nightingale Awards

Year after year, select nurses from UConn John Dempsey Hospital receive Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing. This is the largest nursing recognition program in the state, and only the highest-achieving, most devoted nurses are considered for a Nightingale Award.

Areas of Nursing Care

All areas of care at UConn John Dempsey Hospital are staffed with highly qualified nursing staff to assist patients and the rest of the care team.

  • Emergency Department

    Our UConn Health nurses care for patients in life-threatening situations such as stroke, cardiac event, or other emergency conditions. UConn John Dempsey Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Stroke Gold Plus With Target award and the Mission: Lifeline – STEMI Receiving Center – Gold award.

  • Intensive Care Unit

    In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), our nurses deliver attentive and compassionate care to patients who are critically ill. Our clinical expertise ensures even the most seriously ill patients receive extraordinary care, including those receiving specialized cardiac, cardiothoracic, and neuro-critical care.

  • Intermediate Unit

    In this step-down unit, nurses expertly manage specialized care for numerous cardiac and stroke care patients.

  • Obstetrics & Gynecology

    Our nurses are trained in the latest techniques to offer the most positive experience for typical as well as high-risk moms and their newborns. They offer support through pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
