Podiatry & Foot Diseases

The podiatrists at UConn Health treat over 1,000 patients every year for ailments of the foot, ankle, and leg and is part of the dermatology department at UConn Health. Diabetic foot care and general preventative care services are emphasized in the clinic, and special procedures including nail and skin reconstruction are also available.

We offer care for children with ingrown nails, warts, and other ailments and for adults with structural foot problems such as plantar fasciitis, corns, and bunions. Aging patients receive optimized care for diabetic, vascular, and neurologic foot problems and are followed closely to prevent the development of complications.

The three main causes of foot disease are:

  • Infectious – Viral infections (warts) and fungal infections (athlete’s foot) are highly common.
  • Structural – Changes in the bony structures of the foot often lead to ingrown nails or heel pain.
  • Diabetes – The leading cause of limb loss in America, diabetes is a serious disease that can cause multiple problems with the foot.

We deliver optimized treatment for both common and rare foot disorders. We provide specialized care and are actively involved in research related to diabetic skin disease, fungal infections, and eczematous dermatitis. This modern approach leads to cutting-edge medical therapies.
